IHSI works to connect researchers in basic science and clinical and translational areas to resources and training opportunities. We pair clinicians with Illinois investigators for collaborative research projects, too. Our goal is to help everyone navigate the landscape of clinical and translational research as smoothly as possible.

IHSI catalyzes health sciences research in a few essential ways.

  • Identifying Potential Collaborators

The research development specialists at IHSI can work with you to identify potential clinical collaborators.

  • Supporting Funding Applications

IHSI staff is experienced in putting together NSF, NIH, and other funding agencies’ grant components. We regularly work with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), the Division of Management Information (DMI), the Graduate College and other campus offices to get the information necessary to submit a strong proposal. In addition, we offer our NIH Grant Writing Series geared for junior faculty at Illinois.

  • Guiding Clinical Studies

We assist researchers through the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval process, and continue working with investigators through an entire protocol to ensure valid results are achieved and high standards met.

While IHSI is the uniting initiative for health sciences research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the larger campus boasts robust resources for research. From clean rooms to simulators to imaging suites, Illinois has a broad range of facilities, labs and services available for health sciences research.
